Learning about emotions in Kindergarten!
Mrs. Porter's Kindergarten students read The Kissing Hand and talked about the different emotions we experience. Then they used Play-Doh to mold different emotions from the story while strengthening their fine motor skills.

Students in Mrs. Quarles’ class at LUES are learning how authors organize information. They explored compare-and-contrast by reading articles, identifying similarities and differences, and organizing their thinking with Venn diagrams.
Learning how text is structured helps students better understand what they read, and they had a great time doing it!

Mrs. Threlkeld’s class celebrated their first full week with a fun candy salad kindness activity, learning that things are better together! Then, they cooled off with root beer floats to celebrate National Root Beer Float Day.

Today, our LES family celebrated a very special student by recognizing CHARGE Syndrome Awareness Day. We are proud to celebrate the joy he brings to our school family!

LES Open House Recap
What a wonderful two nights welcoming our youngest Commodores and their families to Lafayette Elementary School! We can't wait to see all of our PK–2 Commodores tomorrow on the first day of school. Here's to a fantastic year ahead!

Lafayette Elementary and Lafayette Upper Elementary Open House Information
Ford Atkinson planned and built this "ship" for our little 'Dores to play on in the LES garden as his Eagle Scout project. Our students had the best time playing on it this past year!! Thank you, Ford, for your hard work and your big heart for our little ones!

Ms. Sicks’ 2nd grade class is wrapping up the year with Camp Farewell! From reading with flashlights to enjoying pancakes on the griddle and fun end-of-year activities, students are making special memories together as they celebrate a great school year.

Mrs. Patton's Art 1 classes teamed up with Mrs. Sloan's second graders for the second year in a row. Two of Mrs. Sloan's art classes designed Squishmallows, and Mrs. Patton's 8th graders made them "come to life" by sewing them into Squishmallows.

Book Blast Celebration!
Thank you to all who supported the LES Book Blast this year! We are sending home 3,929 books for our students' summer reading!

Thank you to our PTO for providing donuts and juice for the celebration.

LES Authors
Mrs. Threlkeld’s first grade class recently became published authors! Their class book, Once Upon a First Grade Tale, brings fairy tales to life through their creativity and hard work. It is an incredible accomplishment for these young writers!

Our 2nd graders wrapped up their last Open Gym yesterday! Take a look at these great group photos, especially the second one, as they flash “3” for 3rd grade!
