Our LUES QUEST students have been learning about wildlife through exciting guest presentations.
Deb Waz Davis from the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science presented on animal adaptations and gave QUEST students a closer look at bats—with the highlight being an encounter with a baby alligator!
Audrey Rhodes, a former Lafayette student, along with a colleague, spoke to our QUEST students about careers in Wildlife Conservation and serving as a Game Warden. We are especially proud to welcome Audrey back to campus to share her journey!
Dan Kerber, Park Ranger from the Natchez Trace Parkway, taught students about wildlife adaptations.
We are grateful to these guests for sharing their time and expertise with our students.
If you are interested in visiting a QUEST class to discuss your career, please contact Mrs. McKinion at diana.mckinion@gocommodores.org.

LUES Anchor Award
At Lafayette Upper Elementary, our faculty celebrate one another by passing the Anchor to an inspiring colleague.
Last week, Mrs. Newman passed the Anchor to Mrs. McKinion!
Mrs. Newman shared that Mrs. McKinion is always smiling and always willing to help everyone.
We are grateful for faculty who go above and beyond to support their students and coworkers each day!

Miss Holden, one of our LUES 5th-grade teachers, shared a diabetic Barbie with her student after receiving one from her grandmother. Both live with diabetes, making this gift extra special.
What a wonderful example of kindness and connection in our Commodore family!

Students in Mrs. Kovach’s 5th-grade class recently shared their Current Event Presentations! Each student researched a topic and chose to present using either a PowerPoint or a poster board.
This project gave students the opportunity to practice research and presentation skills and to learn from one another’s topics.
Check out these photos of our 5th graders in action!

Last week, Ms. Gatlin’s PreK students discovered a walking stick while playing outside, and Ms. Migues’ class celebrated the first fall-like day with outdoor centers. What a wonderful way to welcome September!

This week, our students enjoyed the Move to Learn wellness program!
The free initiative promotes student activity, focus, and energy through short, fun activity breaks. Students also learned valuable healthy living tips on sleep, hydration, and respectful communication, led by the engaging Move to Learn Coach.
Thank you to Move to Learn for bringing wellness and fun into our classrooms!

Congratulations to Derek Wilson and Jayceon Hutchins, this week’s Anchor Award recipients!
Derek was recognized for his kindness and willingness to help others, while Jayceon was commended for his positive attitude and dedication to learning.
We are proud of these students for exemplifying the qualities of Self-Directed Leaders at LUES!

Please join us in congratulating Michael Bevill on his well-deserved promotion to Sergeant within the School Resource Division!
Thank you, Sergeant Bevill, for your service and commitment to keeping our schools safe!

Last night was full of smiles, excitement, and Commodore spirit at Lafayette Elementary and Upper Elementary’s Open House!
Thank you to all of our families who came out to meet teachers and help our students feel confident and ready for the first day of school.
We can't wait to welcome our youngest Commodores back tomorrow!
